Newcastle United are on the brink of a major takeover, as Amanda Staveley’s company, PCP Capital Partners are all set to buy the North-East club. Star Sports understands that the takeover will be announced this week with the investors willing to spend over £100m when the transfer window rolls back around. Moves for Luke Shaw, Ross Barkley and former Magpies striker Andy Carroll were all discussed in the meeting.
Ross Barkley, in particular, has raised a lot of eyebrows. With the Everton midfielder largely being linked with a move to either of Spurs or Chelsea, Newcastle United hi-jacking the deal could be an impressive way for the new club shareholders to announce themselves on the market.
The English International has been an enthralling prospect in the Premier League for the past few seasons but sees himself falling down the pecking order at Everton this season, largely down to the hamstring injury he suffered. However, the Everton starlet still seems to be off the books even if he returns to full fitness due to Everton’s plethora of new signings in the summer.
Therefore, Ross Barkley will be a looking for a move elsewhere this January and Newcastle United could emerge as the perfect suitor for the talented midfielder, who will be looking to redeem himself as one of the top midfielders for England.
There are a number of reasons why Barkley should prefer a move to Newcastle rather than Tottenham or Chelsea. First of which, is the simple fact that the level of competition at either of Spurs or Chelsea will be much higher compared to Newcastle, meaning he will find it difficult to get proper game time under his belt.
With the FIFA World Cup just around the corner, it will be important for Barkley to manage regular game time, and the 23-year-old will definitely get that should he moves to St. James Park. Not only will he be a regular starter but will also be one of the most important players at the club.
Furthermore, Newcastle United have looked very promising at times this season but disappointed at the end, largely due to their lack of creativity in the final third. The addition of Ross Barkley could re-vitalize the offensive department for the Magpies and eventually help them secure a successful campaign for the rest of the season. The player can also have a towering presence in the middle of the pitch and help the backline by playing a deeper role in the midfield.
