Manchester United’s dominance this season had been incredible as the Red Devils maintained a steady growth in their form. But in the last couple of matches, Jose Mourinho’s side looked a bit exhausted, as they edged out Benfica narrowly 1-0 and tasted their second defeat of the season at the hand of Chelsea.
United had one of the most successful transfer windows among the Premier League clubs as they brought in Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku but given their lethargic performance on the pitch Mourinho might include a few more players in the January transfer window.
According to reports, Manchester United are believed to be interested in RB Leipzig player Emil Forsberg. Mourinho was seen in the stands as Sweden took on Italy in the first leg of the World Cup playoff.
Sweden dominated the proceedings and a Jakob Johansson winner has given them a vital advantage prior to the second leg which is scheduled to be held in Italy. The four-time World Cup champions are nearing an exit if they fail to overturn the deficit.
Mourinho attended the game alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic and it is being seen as a movement to bring Forsberg into his fold at the Old Trafford in January. United have been searching for attacking wide players and Forsberg might be a potential option.
The 26-year-old was in the thick of things last season as the German club finished second defying all odds. The winger left a huge mark as he racked up eight goals and 22 assists despite managing just 27 starts.
Forsberg graduated from GIF Sundsvall academy and made his promotion to the senior side. His brilliant form earned him his first big move s Swedish side Malmo came calling for him in 2012 and in his maiden season he played a pivotal role as they roll on to the Swedish title.
Forsberg joined Leipzig back in 2015 and his steady progress saw the club promoted to the top tier. He was very quick to learn with the pros and cons of the top tier as Leipzig surprised everyone by finishing second in the Bundesliga.
United’s pursuit of Ivan Perisic got foiled as the English outfit failed to agree on a fee with Inter Milan for the Croatian and Forsberg could be an alternative for him.
The left winger has been consistent and impressive and his arrival could give the Red Devils a cutting edge which has been missing from the side of late.
