Ander Herrera, who played an imperative role in Manchester United’s triumphant season in the Europa League last season, has reportedly made up his mind to part ways with the Red Devils in the near future. The news has come as a surprise for many as a number of big-name clubs are already looking to capitalise on the situation and get the celebrated midfielder in their side in January.
At the age of 28, the Spanish player has some more years of football left in him. He played a very important role in the last season, which was one of the worst seasons in terms of results in the Premier League for the Red Devils and earned the award of the Player of The Season. However, that seems to have not made his position any stronger in the lineup this term, with the Spaniard sitting out on the bench at the start of this season.
This has reportedly made the midfielder have a second thought about his future at Old Trafford as Herrera might look to force his way out of the side in the next transfer window. Mourinho has not been interested to start the proceedings with the Spaniard in the midfield and opted to use him only after an injury compelled his star player Paul Pogba to stay on the sidelines.
It goes without saying that the 28-year-old will once again be left on the bench after the return of Pogba to the team and it seems that the player does not want to play the second fiddle anymore. Among a number of clubs who are interested in signing the midfielder in January, it seems that he might move to the La Liga side Atletico Madrid.
Los Colchoneros are having a pretty difficult season so far and are on the verge of getting ousted from the Champions League. Their main area of predicament being the midfield, gaffer Diego Simeone is reportedly interested to add someone of the stature of Herrera, who will it a world of stability with his composed and calm attitude.
The Spaniard is in his final year of contract at the Old Trafford, which he might not look to extend given his current predicament. With the La Liga giants in dire need of his services, the Wanda Metropolitano might be the next destination for the 28-year-old Manchester United midfield maestro. His departure might also provide the Red Devils with a significant amount, required to instil their interest in Mesut Ozil, who might join them in January.
