As per one of the latest reports put forth by the Scottish Sun, Scottish Premiership outfit, Rangers, are keen to lure Australian sensation, Riley McGree, to the Ibrox Stadium, although the battle to acquire his services could be an intense one as Celtic are also perceived to have queued up to make him sign on the dotted line.
These two Scottish giants have been closely monitoring the starlet for quite some time now and at this stroke of hour, it seems that they would pounce upon any opportunity to sign him. McGree is currently one of the finest lads to have emerged from Australia of late and is very highly rated in the books of the football fraternity.
The 19-year-old emerged through the youth ranks of Gawler, FFSA NTC and Adelaide United and eventually paved his way to the senior side of the Reds. He joined Club Brugge, the Belgian First Division A outfit, in the summer but is yet to make a breakthrough with the club, thus, leading to the rise of interest from the likes of the Celts and Gers.
He could be allowed to leave in the upcoming January transfer window or summer as Brugge are interested to slash their losses. McGree was called up to the Australian squad in March but is yet to bag his first international cap, although the moment to clinch the same might materialize very soon. He is indeed a talented player and could be a handy addition for Rangers.
A midfielder by trade, McGree showcases immense stamina, work-ethic and exuberance whenever he is handed the opportunity to thrive and is an aggressive player who, more often than not, appears to be desirous to dictate the tempo of the game. He passes the ball well and tries to chalk something stupendous in the final third as well.
Besides, he is a versatile package and can work effectively from the wings and that makes him an appealing commodity for a club like Rangers. The Light Blues are breathing a new life after the exit of Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty has been handed the role of the interim manager of the club. They are currently placed 4th in the league table with 24 points to their name after 12 games.
The Teddy Bears would need to refill their armoury in the upcoming transfer window in order to bolster their credentials of finishing higher in the league table. Although McGree lacks the experience of Scottish football, he ticks a lot of boxes of a quality midfielder and should be a risk worth taking by Rangers.
