Watford have turned out to be the surprise package of this season. Marco Silva’s side have continued their surge in the Premier League table and are only four points adrift of sixth-placed Arsenal.
The Hornets gave the relegation a narrow skip last season, as they finished just one place above the relegation zone. They went through a huge makeover in the summer transfer window as Marco Silva wanted some fresh faces at the Vicarage Road to improve his side’s fortunes for the next season.
Transfer dealings have been done with utter perfection and the owners didn’t compromise with the transfer budgets, thanks to the rise in the Premier League prize money and TV broadcast deals, which saw a huge change in the spending in the transfer markets.
Watford were billed as one of the favourites for relegation following their last season’s debacle but Marco Silva’s side have managed to churn out some pretty impressive displays this season. Silva has been very clear about his style of play and his players have implemented it brilliantly.
A place in the top six is still very much possible but they would be needed more players in the winter transfer window. Here is a list of three players who could be suited well at the Vicarage Road.
Chris Smalling (Manchester United):
Watford need adequate reinforcement in the defensive department and Chris Smalling could be more than a decent option. The English international has had a very confident showing in the Manchester United backline and would be able to bring a sense of stability to the Hornets defence.
Moreover, if they are to qualify for the Europe, Smalling’s plethora of European experience could be of much help. A number of central defenders are currently sidelined with injuries so in this hectic and gruesome season, Silva would feel the need of adequate depth in his side.
Manuel Lanzini (West Ham United):
There would only be a handful of players in the Premier League who would be able to match Lanzini’s flair in the field. The Argentine international has emerged as one of the most coveted playmakers and Silva would certainly get a boost if he can lure the playmaker away from the struggles in London.
William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon):
Nathaniel Chalobah’s long-term injury has played spoilsport for the Hornets and they need an effective option in the middle of the pitch. William Carvalho could instil an energy in this Watford side and his tenacious drive in the middle of the park could prove to be very handful
