Rangers’ highly-rated youngster, Jamie Barjonas, has penned a new two-year deal with the club, which implies that he is tied to the Ibrox Stadium until 2020. The blossoming youngster paved his way to the senior side of the Gers last season and he was handed four Scottish Premiership games in May. So far this campaign, he has collected two substitute appearances and apparently, it seems that Rangers are desirous to keep him in their books for a long time.
After the departure of Pedro Caixinha, the Glasgow-based club has been marshalling in the right direction under the tutelage of interim manager, Graeme Murty. They have secured two league wins on trot (which comprised of their victories against Heart of Midlothian and Partick Thistle) and are now placed 4th in the league table, with 24 points to their name from 12 outings. During Caixinha’s reign, the Light Blues did falter time and again, and thus, it is intriguing to see them striking the right chords yet again.
Finalising an extension of a stupendous starlet like Barjonas is a shrewd move by Rangers, for he is someone who is tactically very sound and has shown immense confidence and calibre, more often than not. The combative midfielder is very competent with the ball, picks up right passes and tries to knit the side together as a unit. Besides, he is good at reading the game no wonder why his stocks are so highly rated at the club at this stroke of hour.
Apart from Barjonas, another youngster to have committed his imminent future to the club is Aidan Wilson, who put his pen to the paper for an extension deal last week. Scintillating youngsters do give a run for money to the senior pros of any side, which enables in elevating the level of competition for a place in the starting line-up. Given his edge and the likelihood of what he can offer in times to come, it goes without saying that Barjonas has the potential to be a galvanizing asset.
The 18-year-old is arguably a jewel to have surfaced from the youth academy of Rangers and frankly speaking, the Teddy Bears should look forward to handing him a substantial amount of time on the pitch on a regular basis in order to facilitate his further development. He needs to pile experience under his belt and by learning from some proven figures like Ryan Jack, Graham Dorrans and Carlos Pena, he can certainly learn to ply his trade in a better manner.
