Manchester City’s fluent run in the Premier League was strengthened by their commanding win over Arsenal. Pep Guardiola’s side looking in full control as they racked up their 10th win in style over Arsene Wenger’s side.
Despite their dominance in the Premier League, Pep is looking for some reinforcements in January and reports reveal that he might renew his interest in West Brom defender Jonny Evans. The Baggies are likely to listen to offers for their skipper, who has reinvented himself in a new fashion.
The Northern Ireland international left Manchester United in 2015 in the search of more game time and West Brom came calling for the 29-year-old. The central defender has gone on to reestablish his authority for the Baggies and has been a regular for them.
Despite appearing in close to 200 matches, he never was the preferred choice at the Old Trafford but his stock has definitely upgraded, following his move to the Hawthorns.
City did have a bid rejected in the summer as the baggies were not ready to let their most prized asset leave the club but current condition could tempt the club to cash in on the player. Evans’ season has been marred by injuries and the Baggies now have a big decision to make.
Everton are also in the queue for the defender and are likely to battle City. The defence has been the main concern for the Toffees as the likes of Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka look sloppy. Evans could be the perfect name to assist Michael Keane in shoring the backline.
Evans could have donned the Everton jersey much before as the Merseyside club had almost signed the player for a fee of £8m but the move failed and he went on to sign for the Baggies.
Manchester City had a pretty big summer window but Pep wants a more experienced player at the back with Vincent Kompany out injured for a prolonged period. Eliaquim Mangala has fallen in the pecking order, so they don’t have an adequate backup at the back, something Pep is well aware of.
West Brom quoted a price of £35m, which City were not ready to pay but given their desire for the title, they might be ready to pay the aforementioned sum this time around. Now it is upto Evans whether he wants to challenge for a spot in the starting lineup at Etihad Stadium or ready to divulge himself at the Merseyside.
Do you think he is the right man for City?
