It is being reported that Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu is being scouted by several English clubs with Manchester City being one of them. The 21-year old centre back made his professional debut for Altınordu S.K and played for the club for till 2016. The Turkish international was linked with several clubs like Besiktas, Galatasaray and Sevilla but decided to make his switch to the Bundesliga as he thought it would give him the perfect boost to his career.
He finally moved to German outfit SC Freiburg in the summer of 2016 and has gone on to make 36 appearances for the club. In his time at Freiburg, he has scored a goal and assisted one as well. His impressive performances earned him praises from fans and pundits and interested several top European clubs.
The player at the age of 21, has demonstrated good leadership qualities and standing at 1.87 metres tall marks a towering figure for any defence. He has idolized Puyol and also follows the game of Mats Hummels closely. The Turkish international has good control on the ball and his calmness in pressure situations is rare for someone his age. Soyuncu has already made 9 appearances for the national team.
The situation at City is now booming. Pep has formed a team that is well on its way to conquer Europe should they keep up their current form. The Manchester City team is heavily loaded with attacking talents from all across the globe and under Pep’s careful tutelage the players have gelled well together to form a team that is producing nothing but swashbuckling score lines in their favour.
City has already scored 44 goals this season in a space of just two months and are hungry for more. However, upon close inspection, it can be seen that there are still a few cracks in that City team Pep would like to identify.
For starters, it has been no secret that Pep wanted a new partner for John Stones at the back. With Kompany becoming more and more injury prone, Otamendi is not really Pep’s favoured choice. He is stuck with the error-prone Argentine for now and knowing Pep’s pursuit for perfection and City’s healthy wallet, they would like to diagnose and treat the illness before it spreads.
It won’t be surprising to see City go out for a new centre-back, a ball-playing player who can partner Stones for years to come. It is in this light, that City will be keeping a close eye on Soyuncu and should the young Turk continue to impress, Pep might just call up the player and charter his plane to the Etihad.
