Rangers are a club in a pretty timorous state and a resurrection is the call of the hour. Pedro Caixinha’s reign didn’t last even a year and the Gers are apparently vouching for their options in order to fill the void that has surfaced after the departure of the Portuguese.
As of now, Graeme Murty is the caretaker manager and the next task for him is to host Partick Thistle at the Ibrox Stadium on Saturday. Rangers, who are at the 4th spot in the league table after 11 league games, are 6 points behind their arch-rivals, Celtic, who are placed at the top of the league table. Impliedly, the upcoming game holds paramount importance.
Here is how we expect Murty to dish out his starting line-up against the Jags.
Defence
James Tavernier at the right-back slot is one of the first names to find his place in the starting line-up this weekend. Tavernier’s industry down the right has been appealing as he marauds forward and also tracks back meticulously to cater to his defensive duties. On the left, we expect the exciting fullback, Declan John, to be pencilled to showcase his calibre once again.
At the heart of the defence of the Light Blues, the duo of Ross McCrorie and Daniel Wilson is anticipated to start. These two worked well in Rangers’ 1-3 away win against Heart of Midlothian and it wouldn’t be surprising to see both of them getting another game under their belt. The custodian role is likely to be handed to Wes Foderingham.
Midfield
Kenny Miller is seemingly likely to be engineered into the no. 10 slot as he still has the requisite attributes to ply his trade for Rangers, despite being in the wrong side of thirties. The 37-year-old was overlooked, more often than not, by Caixinha, but he still remains popular amidst the fans as well.
To cushion the backline, dictate the tempo of the game and push the side forward, we expect Murty to use Jason Holt and Ryan Jack in the middle of the park. They need to marshal the midfield well, for the upcoming test would really test their grit and perseverance.
Attack
Right up front, Alfredo Morelos should be one starting in order to spearhead the attack of the Teddy Bears. He is a major asset for his employers and his teammates really need to feed him with quality balls adequately. From the right flank, Daniel Candeias should keep his place and on the right, we expect Josh Windass to start, having scored in the last fixture for Rangers.
