The Alexis Sanchez saga seems to have no end as another new story has spurned out long after the transfer window has closed. 22-year old Hirving Lozano has been identified as the next target by the chiefs at the Emirates to replace their Chilean star Alexis Sanchez.
It is no secret that Arsenal have failed to tie down their prized asset to a new contract and Sanchez, come the end of this 2017-18 season will reach the end of his contract and will be free to move on to any club of his choice as a free agent. Despite the fear of losing such an asset on a free transfer, in a surprising turn of events, Wenger has chosen to not move the player out but to keep him for another season to help Arsenal win silverware.
A host of top European clubs have been linked with the Chilean winger whose impressive form has made him a top-target for them. The likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, and Chelsea have all been linked to him at one point or another during the summer. Sanchez was reportedly close to a deadline day move to domestic rivals Manchester City before Arsenal made a U-turn on the deal and chose to keep him instead.
It is now being considered by Arsenal to bring in Mexican winger Hirving Lozano to fill the Sanchez gap. Lozano signed for PSV Eindhoven from Pachuca this June for a reported fee of £7.04m on a six year deal.
He has gone on to impress everyone around the club with his attacking flair and a keen eye for goal. Lozano scored seven goals in his first eight games for the club and continued to add value to his weight by scoring another brace this weekend against Vitesse.
The Mexican winger has also made more than 20 appearances for his country and is expected to play a crucial part for his country in next year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Arsenal has been scouting Lozano for some time now having previously sent chief scout Steve Rowley to gather reports on the 22-year old.
Lozano is still an unproven quantity in Europe and paying such a hefty amount for him to replace a high-profile player like Sanchez will prove to be a tricky decision for Wenger. Should Wenger scrap the deal and go for someone tried and tested instead?
