Newcastle United have got off to a flying start after their promotion this season. The Magpies dominated the Championship last season and went on to lift the title and finding a way back to the top tier.
Rafa Benitez was looking to bring some top notch players in the summer but failed to do so. He is expected to spend vigorously into the winter transfer market and according to reports, he might go for Ross Barkley in the winter transfer window.
The Magpies have shown that money isn’t everything to survive in the Premier League. Barkley had been heavily linked with a transfer in summer with a host of clubs but an injury saw all moves fail, leaving him struggling at the Goodison Park.
Barkley’s contract is due to expire at the end of next summer and this might be the best time for Everton to cash in on him. The Toffees quoted a price of £25m when Spurs came calling last summer but if Newcastle approach the Toffees, they might have to pay a similar amount in January.
The Toon do have a very extensive line of midfielders but Benitez doesn’t have a player who matches Barkley’s flair. The midfielder is touted to be the next big thing in English football.
Benitez lacks a quality attacking midfielder in his side as he has been using Ayoze Perez in the no. 10 role and bringing Barkley would be an upgrade. The 23-year-old does have the vision to enthral the Magpies supporters and his versatility could be a boon for Benitez. His decision making in the final third can be pretty amazing and he can also be stationed on the flanks.
Everton brought in a host of attacking players in the summer so it would be difficult for the player to getting a place in the starting lineup. The Toffees are yet to name a manager and it also remains to be seen whether the new manager will have Barkley in any of his plans.
Newcastle have been put up for sale by owner Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley’s company PCP Capital Partners is in talks with the club for a possible takeover. If the deal goes through, the new owner could sanction a big transfer kitty which could be used to bring Barkley to the Tyneside.
But can Barkley be a hit at the St James’?
