A number of days have passed since Ronald Koeman left the Goodison Park but Everton are yet to name their new manager. The Toffees decided to show the door to to the Dutch manager, who failed to improve the Merseyside club.
The Dutch gaffer guided them to the sixth position last season and had hoped for a retrieval of form this season. Despite splashing the cash, Everton failed to gain any momentum this season and as a result, Koeman had to part ways with the club.
The Merseyside club have been on the lookout for a new manager and although they have set up a list of top managers, they are yet to decide on someone. Burnley manager Sean Dyche’s name has been doing the rounds although there hasn’t been any contact with the club.
The Clarets are monitoring the situations pretty closely and are readying their contingency plan should Dyche leave for Goodison Park. If reports are to be believed they are interested in Reading manager Jaap Stam. Stam’s side have fallen a long way from their stupendous last season and have been struggling in the second tier. The Royals have had a tough start to this season and have been hovering around the relegation zone.
Their 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest has given them a temporary relief but Stam’s work is far from finished. The Royals made it to the playoffs last season but this time, they would be very happy if they somehow manage to give the relegation a skip.
Stam’s job is not secure at this moment and any hiccups in the next few matches could bring to an end, his Reading spell. Burnley are ready to play a waiting game and don’t want to rush things at the moment.
Sean Dyche’s side have been flying high in the Premier League and it would be a severe blow if the gaffer decides to end his Burnley spell. It has been a fairytale journey for the Clarets and if they maintain their current form, they could finish the season within the top ten positions, which itself will be a big achievement.
Stam’s future depends on how his side performs in the remaining matches and it would take a miraculous turn around to keep things simple at the Madejski Stadium. Talks haven’t been held over who should be the next manager but Burnley are definitely going to tap him once if Dyche does leave the Turf Moor.
But is Stam the right man for the Clarets?
