Brighton & Hove Albion have uplifted themselves in the last few matches as they are currently unbeaten in the last three games. Following their promotion to the Premier League, the Seagulls have not been up to the mark, as they had been going through a transition phase but manager Chris Hughton has been successful as he has established them as a force in the top flight already.
Brighton disbursed their money quite vigorously in the summer as they went on to undergo a squad overhaul but Hughton doesn’t seem to be impressed by the squad depth and is likely to dig deep in the transfer market when it re-opens in January.
According to reports, the Seagulls are considering a move for Sunderland defender Lamine Kone. The Ivorian international’s form is currently a shadow of what it used to be when he arrived at the Stadium Of Light. The first few months were the best of his Sunderland career but he seemed to have lost it in recent months.
Despite his form, Brighton’s interest in the player remains a mystery. Hughton has one of the best central defensive pairings in Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy in the Premier League but lack of depth in the side has been a concern for the boss.
Kone’s form has been miserable this season as he has been caught on the wrong side more often than not and Sunderland supporters won’t bats an eye if he leaves the club permanently. The strong defender had been linked with a move to Everton but Sunderland probably preferred to keep him at the Stadium Of Light in a bid to sell him for a much higher price in future.
Chris Hughton is said to have watched the player against Brentford and is ready to launch an offer to bring him back to the Premier League.
The Black Cats would definitely consider a bid as they need to reduce the wage bill. Kone pockets around £30,000 a week and offloading him would be a good move for the general well being of the club. The Black cats are currently struggling in the Championship as they are placed virtually-bottom in the second tier.
They seem to have not learned from their mistakes of last season and are in the line to getting relegated to League One, which would be shambolic for the club. Kone perhaps needs a stage to stabilise his career and Falmer Stadium could be the perfect stage to display his ability. But is he the right man for the Seagulls?
