Bayern Munich finally managed to successfully retake their customary number one spot in the league table, after ousting third-placed RB Leipzig in the Allianz Arena. Two first-half goals were enough to give Bayern a comfortable 2:0 victory against the Roten Bullen as they continue their 100% record under new coach Jupp Heynckes.
Here are Bayern Munich players rated and slated in their convincing win against Ralph Hassenhuttl’s men.
Sven Ulreich (7/10): Was largely a spectator for the entirety of the game, as Leipzig hardly managed to breach the solid defensive line of FC Bayern.
Joshua Kimmich (8.5/10): A strong showing from the German International, who linked up well with Arjen Robben to cause problems for the Leipzig defence. His corners, in particular, were proving to be very dangerous and a handful for the opposition.
Jerome Boateng (8/10): Looked to be back in his former self, as the German International remained solid throughout the course of the game. A performance that will surely bring back some confidence for the 28-year-old defender.
Mats Hummels (8/10): Stood like a wall at the heart of the Bayern defence. Hummels was proving to be a brick wall for the likes of Yusuf Poulsen and Emil Forsberg, which they couldn’t break despite many efforts.
David Alaba (8.5/10): He was a key player in Bayern’s wing back on the left-hand side. Alaba linked up very well with the attackers to pose a strong threat for the opposition defence.
Sebastian Rudy (9/10): Controlled the tempo of the game with his faultless passing and distinct ball circulation. Rudy made an early impact when his sublime through ball found Arjen Robben which eventually led to the red card incident for Willi Orban.
Javi Martinez (9/10): Complimented the work of Sebastian Rudy to help Bayern dominate the midfield. His rather abrasive work in the central areas proved to be efficient for Jupp Heynckes men in seizing control over the midfield zones.
Arjen Robben (9/10): Was one of the more active players in the match. The Dutchman was a complete menace for the opposition and was also the man behind most of Bayern’s chances against Leipzig. He lured in Willi Orban to foul him just outside the box, which led to the sending off for the Leipzig captain.
Thiago Alcantara (8.5/10): Bossed the midfield with his flair and charisma. Thiago was given a rather offensive role against Leipzig and the Spaniard embraced that role with aplomb. His neat passing and clever movements absolutely unsettled the backline for RB Leipzig.
James Rodriguez (9.5/10): Easily the man of the match of the game, James Rodriguez was the man behind every Bayern attack. His clever link-up play, pacy movements completely terrified the opposing defenders for the entirety of the game. His opener proved to be the real difference between the two sides, which eventually decided the real outcome of the match.
Robert Lewandowski (9/10): Put in an excellent shift, especially with his movements and tenacity in the final third. Lewandowski was rewarded for his efforts with a customary goal, seven minutes before the halftime whistle.
Subs
Arturo Vidal (8/10): Rodriguez’s excellent evening was put to an abrupt end as he made way for Arturo Vidal just before the halftime. Vidal offered Bayern a more physical superiority which eventually helped them getting the better of their opposition.
Rafinha (NA): Replaced Joshua Kimmich for the final moments of the game. The Brazilian was fairly solid enough to help his team see out their two-goal cushion.
Corentin Tolisso (NA): Was subbed on for Robert Lewandowski with just five minutes remaining on the clock.
