Nine matches down the wire, defending champions Chelsea are finding it outright difficult to hang on to their title this season. The Blues have lost three matches already and are looking to bounce back as the season progresses towards the second half.
Chelsea have faced a world of difficulties in their midfield with a number of key players sidelined with injuries. The Blues are now eyeing some new recruits to be added to their side in the near future and might bid for players who are playing a significant role for their current clubs since the last few seasons.
The West London club have their eyes on one of the best midfielders in Europe at the present moment, in the form of the Spanish international Saul Niguez. The young central midfielder has become one of the most trustworthy figures at his current club Atletico Madrid and has earned rave reviews for his mercurial presence in the middle of the pitch for the La Liga outfit.
Since his arrival at the club in 2013, the player has gradually made his way into the starting eleven and has established himself as a key figure in the squad both at the domestic as well as European level. His ability to hold onto the ball for a significant period of time and fend off the opposition players with his physical strength while fighting for the ball has attracted the eyes of a number of top clubs from all over Europe including the Premier League champions Chelsea.
Chelsea are without a number of key figures in their squad at the moment including their Player of The Season from the last term N’ Golo Kante. The Frenchman is sidelined with an injury, leaving the midfield duties with his compatriot Tiemoue Bakayoko, who has not been able to find a strong foothold in the squad.
This might have prompted the gaffer, Antonio Conte, to look for a player like Nuguez as an urgent reinforcement to his side. Reportedly, the Blues manager is ready to shell out as much as €80 million to avail the services of the 22-year-old Spanish star and he might look to table a bid in January.
The West London outfit brought in Danny Drinkwater on the deadline of the summer transfer window to add to to his midfield. However, the player has been forced to sit on the sidelines since the start of the season, making it imperative for the Blues to add a player with good potential in European football and Saul Niguez might be the perfect fit for the spot on offer.
Can Chelsea land him?
