Since Brendan Rodgers took charge of Scottish champions Celtic, a name that has been persistently linked with a switch to Parkhead is Aston Villa winger Scott Sinclair and The Daily Mail claims that the Villans have rejected the fourth approach from the Bhoys for the 27-year-old. The Daily Mail claims that Celtic have had bids worth £1m, £1.25m, £2.2m and £2.75m rejected by the Championship club who are holding out for a £5m valuation of the winger they signed from Manchester City a year back.
Scott Sinclair’s career could have had a very different a glorious path if not for the Englishman’s poor decision making that saw him join Manchester City in 2012. In his three seasons at Etihad, Sinclair managed to get just 19 appearances for the Sky Blues and his growth as a player was stalled big time. One failed loan spell and one mediocre one with West Brom and Aston Villa respectively was followed by a permanent move to Villa Park last summer but it failed to bring the winger’s career back to life.
Sinclair was utterly wasteful for Villa last season managing to find the net just twice from 27 Premier League games failing to inspire the club to stay up in the Premier League. His value has fallen in the last few years and moving to Celtic will definitely attract the player. Sinclair found the best form of his career under now Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers whist the duo were at Swansea.
The duo first worked together at Chelsea where Rodgers was the manager of the youth side. Eventually, the Northern Irishman snapped the fleet-footed winger at Swansea City what followed was the best two years of the winger’s career. Sinclair spent two seasons at Liberty working with Rodgers and it was nothing but sheer brilliance from the 27-year-old.
36 goals and nine assists from 91 games- such was the productivity of Sinclair at Swansea in just two seasons. However, those days are long gone now and he is remembered by nothing more than a failed talent. Even though Sinclair failed to hit the top gear of his career in the Premier League, he still has the quality to set the Premiership on fire if he reunites with Rodgers.
Celtic do have a wealth of options available on the flanks with McGregor, Armstrong, Mackay-Steven, Forrest and Roberts but Sinclair, with his top-level experience, would be a big upgrade on any of them. With Rangers bolstering their squad with quality and experience both, Celtic’s Premiership title could be at stake. Getting a player like Sinclair would be a big statement from the Hoops.
