Leeds United’s frailties are getting exposed of late, with their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Leicester City in the League Cup and a sporadic run of form in the Championship being the reminders of the same. Under the tutelage of Garry Monk, the Whites showed immense productivity for the major chunk of the season but withered right at the business end, as a result of which they failed to carve a place for themselves in the top-six of the league table.
A breath of fresh air blew across Elland Road after Thomas Christiansen was handed the steering wheel in order to take the club forward in the right direction. Getting promoted to the Premier League would unarguably be on the back of the mind of Christiansen even at this early stage of the Championship.
Thus, it goes without saying that he needs to start getting the results on a consistent basis to mount a challenge for the promotion spot. The summer transfer window was fairly productive for Leeds United as they made a lot of signings to bolster their ranks.
However, the former APOEL manager is keen to add more firepower to his arsenal and the club has been sending scouts far and wide to monitor players possessing substantial calibre. According to Scouts in Attendance, scouts of the Yorkshire club has been present in the last two of Austria Wien’s games. Although not explicitly mentioned, logic dictates that it could very well be their forward Alhassan Ibrahim.
The Austrian Bundesliga side do have wealth of youngsters at their disposal and Ibrahim is one of the starlets they have in their books, albeit on loan from Nigerian Premier League side Akwa United FC. He previously trained with Manchester City, though nothing substantial came out of that.
Having emerged through the youth ranks of FC Heart Academy, the Nigerian international was signed by the Promise Keepers after his brief spell with the senior side of Wikki. He smashed 12 goals in 16 appearances or Akwa United and fell on the radar of the football fraternity.
Tall, good in the air and quite composed on the ball, the 20-year-old attacker is a decent blossoming package with tremendous scope of development in future. He does possess predatory instincts and from what has come to our notice so far, he is clinical and knows how to work with his teammates.
Leeds United do have plenty of options up front and frankly speaking, adding someone like Ibrahim isn’t likely to help them much, for the animosity in the Championship is simply humungous and he would need time to settle. Nonetheless, he could be a valuable asset for them in future and it would be intriguing to see if something materializes from here onwards.
