The Premier League leaders get through to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup after winning on penalties by 4 goals to 1. They found it immensely hard to break down a well drilled and resilient Wolves team that just would not give up. Claudio Bravo was City’s hero in the 120 minutes’ action as well as the penalty shootout saving 2 crucial penalties that helped City overcome Wolves.
The Best & Worst Manchester City Players Rated In Their Penalty Shoot Out Win Over Wolves
Claudio Bravo – 9.5
Possibly The Citizens’ best player having kept them in the game after denying 19-year-old Enobakhare in two one on one situations and keeping out Helder Costa in the other one on one situation. Made two crucial saves in the penalty shootout that ensured City’s place in the Quarter Finals of the Carabao Cup.
Oleksandr Zinchenko – 6.5
Played almost as a left winger at times in the first half of the game. Tried to feed crosses into the box for the likes of Aguero and Jesus to gamble on but to no good effect. Was good on the ball with some tidy passing
Eliaquim Mangala – 6
Had a disappointing night overall. Was bullied by the Wolves teenage striker on a couple of occasions. Was not decisive on the ball either.
Tosin Adarabioyo – 7.5
Manchester City have found a great back up in this Englishman. Was calm and composed on the ball unlike his colleague and stuck to his defensive duties quite well. On the whole a clinical performance.
Danilo – 6.5
Found acres of space down the right flank in the early parts of the game but made no use of it. He was guilty of giving away the ball cheaply leaving his defence exposed on a few occasions.
Yaya Toure – 5.5
Possibly Manchester City’s worst player on the pitch today. As a pivotal part of the midfield, he made no real attempt to feed in his attackers. Majority of the passes were sideward. Caught napping on the ball on numerous occasions. A game to think about for Toure.
Bernardo Silva – 6.5
The Portuguese made a few blistering runs with the ball but was eventually shut down by Wolves’ centre-backs. Tried his best to create opportunities. Lacked that bit of communication with Sterling in a few situations.
İlkay Gündoğan – 7
Looked like the only player who could cut open the defence with his passing vision. Played a few balls through the centre-backs but then again, Wolves gave no scope for the front runners of City.
Raheem Sterling – 7
Similar to Danilo found lot of spaces on the right flank troubling Wolves’ wing back Vinagre with his pace and movement. Played a brilliant cross to Aguero in the early minutes that the Argentine scuffed up.
Sergio Aguero – 6
The Argentine looked like he was too anxious to get that goal that would break the record. Missed a great opportunity from a Sterling cross. Apart from that, the Wolves’ centre-backs kept him at bay and neither did he look his sharpest.
Gabriel Jesus – 6
Similar to Aguero, Jesus was trying too hard to break the shackles. Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t link up with his striker partner. Didn’t have a huge impact in the game by any means. Certainly not a “Jesus like” performance.
