German giants Borussia Dortmund are expected to land with a contract extension for their German superstar Marco Reus. Over the years, when several top-notch players left for pastures new, Reus remained as one of Dortmund’s most loyal players by opting to stay at his boyhood club rather than moving abroad.
Reus surprised everyone a few weeks ago when he spoke about the possibility of leaving BVB after the end of his current contract. However, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has poured cold water over the transfer speculation. When talking to kicker, the Dortmund legend claimed that Borussia Dortmund can see Marco Reus with them, in the long run. He believes Reus will commit his future with his hometown club BVB.
Reus’ current contract expires in 2019, and although a contract extension at the very moment seems unlikely considering the fact that the attacker still has two years left on his contract. But the Black and Yellows are more than expected to successfully renew contract next season.
Marco Reus’ contract extension could be a huge boost to the club. The 28-year-old has been one of Bundesliga’s brightest attacking prospects in the past five years – if not the best. Although the German International has suffered quite a lot of injuries in his career, Reus’ always makes up for it when he’s fit and ready to go. The Dortmund ace was courted by the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool for quite some time now. Thus, his contract extension will also wash off further interest from other clubs.
Last season, for instance, the attacker was out injured for the most of the Hinrunde, but came back strongly in the second half of the season, eventually becoming the second most prolific BVB attacker of the season.
Marco Reus is definitely one of the best players in the Bundesliga, and his presence in the Dortmund team only hypes the morale of this rather young inexperienced team managed by Peter Bosz. The lack of quality players is also one of the reasons behind Dortmund’s demise in the Champions League this season. Marco Reus can be the perfect leader for the Black and Yellows in the coming years, providing he’s fit.
