Having made a shocking move to the Merseyside from the St Mary’s earlier this summer, Ronald Koeman, the former Southampton manager has gotten off to a flying start to his career at the Goodison Park having taken 7 points from the first 3 games of the season before the international break. The manager has already established his authority on the squad and has seen his team play some good football as they dropped points only against the Spurs and are strong contenders for a place in Europe come the end of the season. However, with the deadline approaching, Koeman is still interested in adding to his squad to help him achieve his goal, and one such player who is now heavily linked with the club is French international Moussa Sissoko.
The 27-year old Newcastle winger was one of the standout performers for the hosts of the recently concluded EUROs as he carried his form from the Premier League back to France. Sissoko was one of the very few bright spots for the Magpies who suffered relegation last season and though Rafa Benitez, the current Newcastle manager wants him to stay, it is understood that he wants to move back into the Premier League with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea also interested in his signature. But the Goodison Park might be the best destination for the 27-year old if he decides to make a move this summer.
The former Toulouse man is vastly experienced in his time in England having made 118 appearances for the Newcastle side since his move to the club back in 2013. Ever since, he has been a useful player who showcases his talent every once in a while but his best season was the previous one where he failed to help his side stay in the top flight. Even in such a season, Sissoko managed to trouble even the best of teams in the Premier League and has shown that he is ready for a bigger step in his career, but the consistency has been missing.
He is a well-built midfielder who is comfortable dribbling past opponents with ease. He relies on creating chances for his team mates by finding them in space in the final third as his vision and technique help him to set players free in dangerous areas. He is an excellent passer of the ball that allows players around him grow in confidence and he is at his best when his team try to turn defense into attack quickly. He can dribble, pass and score (though he needs to work on it after scoring just 11 goals for Newcastle) and is the kind of a player that will give the Everton squad a more balanced look.
The likes of Kevin Mirallas and Yannick Bolasie were played on the wings in the Everton’s recent victory over Stoke City but neither looked like they can tear oppositions apart with their drive. Sissoko is a man who can do that. Koeman loves for his team to stay compact in defense and hard to beat but is also an advocate of sizzling attacking football.
The current squad at the club has some smart players who will help the manager in his quest this season and Sissoko will only improve his chances. He will add a different dimension to the attack at the Goodison Park at the moment as his pace and brute strength will help Everton dominate the opposition half even against stronger teams.
Sissoko is in demand at the moment and will not be easily available but the attributes and experience the 27-year old French star will get to the squad will help the Toffees aim for higher things this season. If he can, Ronald Koeman must go all in for his signature this summer. Do you think Everton should sign Sissoko before the deadline day?
