Southampton are having a mixed season in the Premier League so far, having won two and drawn three of their matches. They once again shared the spoils with Newcastle United, when they went onto scrape out another lacklustre draw against the Magpies in their last match.
The Saints have shown resilience so far this season but that has not helped them to win more than two out of their first eight matches. They will, however, be looking to turn the tide in their favour with some positive results in the near future, starting with their next match against West Bromwich Albion.
This is how they might line up in their next match.
Defence
The South Coast club is known for its brilliant defensive lineup and has some of the best defenders at their disposal, who have saved the day for them on many occasions. The likes of Cedric Soares, Virgil Van Dijk, Maya Yoshida and Ryan Bertrand have looked in good form but this season, the results have not fallen in their favour so far.
The four-man backline will hope for a better outing when they face the Baggies in their next match, who also can boast of a top class defensive lineup. Fraser Forster will be starting for them under the crossbars in this game.
Midfield
With players like Dusan Tadic, Oriol Romeu, Mario Lemina and Nathan Redmond, the Saints are expected to perform much better in the midfield than they have till now. However, they will look for redemption in their next match and will hope for a result in their favour after failing to win their last encounter against the Magpies.
Attack
The Saints faced a lot of trouble in their last campaign in the Premier League, which saw them lose a number of their strikers to injuries. However, that has not been the case so far this season and players like Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long are starting for the side regularly.
The Italian showed his class in the last match and scored a brace against Newcastle to help his side rescue a point from the match. He will look to repeat his performance but this time for a win, that will give his side the much-needed impetus early in this season.
Predicted Lineup
Forster, Cedric, Van Dijk, Yoshida, Bertrand, Tadic, Romeu, Lemina, Redmond, Gabbiadini, Long.
