After a long wait, Crystal Palace have finally found the net in the Premier League and that too against the defending champions Chelsea. Roy Hodgson’s side shocked the Blues to register their first win of the season which might shape the remaining season in a much better way.
Despite their improved display, there is still room for betterment and Hodgson is likely to shell out some cash in the January transfer window to give the side a much-needed impetus. According to reports, Palace are monitoring Besiktas front man Cenk Tosun.
The Turkish international has emerged as a realistic target for the Eagles as the club hierarchy thinks the 26-year-old would be a perfect addition to the club. Palace’s director of football Dougie Freedman was in the stands as the player scored a brace against Finland in a World Cup Qualifier which has added further fuel to the speculation.
The English club has lacked the quality up front as the likes of Christian Benteke has been pretty goal shy this season. The Eagles have a decent attacking lineup but lack of intent to get into the attacking third more often has hurt their ambitions in a big way.
Tosun knows the art of scoring and has made his name in the Turkish top tier with his consistent performance for Besiktas. The forward graduated from the Eintracht Frankfurt Academy but never got the chance to prove his credentials. He then decided to move to his native country Turkey for a better opportunity, which has changed his fortune.
Tosun opted to sign for Turkish club Gaziantepspor and his excellent display at the club earned him a big move to Besiktas, which turned out to be the big break of his career. The 26-year-old currently boasts an excellent scoring record as he has netted more than 50 times since moving to the club back in 2014.
He is physically very strong and can hold onto the ball remarkably well. He also works tirelessly in the attacking third and has an ominous presence in the air. So apparently he has all the quality to blossom in the Premier League and Palace should make a move for him once the transfer window reopens.
Palace have prioritized the signing of a forward, following injuries to both their centre-forwards Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham. However, the Turkish club is in fine form in the Champions League this season and they might be reluctant to let go of him if they manage to qualify for the next round of the Champions League.
