As per one of the latest reports by The Daily Mail, defending Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have put Red Star Belgrade’s striker Richmond Boakye on their radar for a prospective transfer in the near future. Boakye has been drawing attention from the football fraternity of late, with the likes of Chelsea, Swansea City and Crystal Palace also looking very keen to make him sign on the dotted line and thus, it implies that it wouldn’t be easy for the Bhoys to sign him.
The Celts have had a stupendous start to their new campaign, as they have collected 23 points from their first 9 games and are currently placed at the top of the Scottish top division table.
Under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers, the Glasgow giants have certainly looked prolific and it goes without saying that the former Liverpool boss would be keen to bolster his squad further with quality signings. Their apparent interest in Boakye makes complete sense.
The Ghana international had been in the books of clubs such as Juventus, Genoa and Latina and his dazzling goal-scoring form this year hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Boakye has already smashed 4 league goals this season, which includes the goal he scored on Saturday in his side’s thumping 4-0 win over Macva Sabac in the Serbian SuperLiga fixture. Besides, he also found the back of the net for the Red-Whites in their 1-0 win over Cologne in the Europa League last month.
Boakye has been garnering rave reviews and given Rodgers’ inclination to sign players with a fine calibre from the relatively unexplored markets, the attacker would be at the back of the mind of the Celtic gaffer.
The 24-year-old has raw pace in his boots and possesses predatory instincts which make him an appealing commodity for any top quality side. Tall, strong and powerful, he has the ingredients to succeed and has the requisite tactical and technical understanding of the game as well.
Besides, he times his runs perfectly and his physicality allows him to hold the ball meticulously up front and bring his teammates into the equation. Boakye is clinical, perseverant and has plenty of experience under his belt.
A move to the Celtic Park would be an upward step in his career, although he would have to face competition from two quality strikers in Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele to bag a place in the starting line-up of the Hoops if the deal materializes.
