Manchester United have started their campaign in the Premier League on a good note, having won six of their first seven matches. Every player has played their part in helping their side move to the top of the Premier League table, where they are situated neck and neck with their arch-rivals Manchester City, separated only by goal difference.
The contribution of the players has been huge for the success of the Red Devils, including the ones who were brought into the side during the summer transfer window. While Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic have perfectly justified their price tags so far this season, an experienced campaigner like Juan Mata has also played a big role in making it a successful outing for his club so far this term.
The Spaniard is known for his swift footwork and ability to thread delightful passes into the final third, setting up his teammates to score goals. He is also equipped with the ability to score important goals as well, which has made him one of the most influential players in the lineup since the last term.
The Spanish international arrived at Old Trafford in 2014 in a shock move from Chelsea. After a good start to life under former manager David Moyes, the 29-year-old was pushed down the pecking order, having failed to deliver on a regular basis for his side.
There were also speculations about the player leaving the side in 2015, but Mata had other plans regarding his career with the 13 time Premier League champions.
The ex-Chelsea star made use of whatever chances fell to him and went on to make his presence felt in the midfield for the Red Devils. In fact, he was one of the few players who were consistent last term, leading the side to triumph in the Europa League, helping them qualify for the Champions League despite a forgettable season in the domestic circuit.
Under the regime of one of the toughest taskmasters in club football, Jose Mourinho, the Spaniard has proved that he is an asset for the side and there is a strong possibility of his good work getting rewarded with a new contract that will see him stay put for some more years at Old Trafford.
Given his brilliant form of late, it might be a good decision on part of the Red Devils as the Spaniard has the ability and vigour to shoulder the responsibility of continuing as one of the best squad players they ever had. Is Mata one of the most important players for Mourinho?
