The last few games hadn’t shaped the way Leeds United would have hoped. The Whites suffered a slight jolt in their plans as they lost three matches out of their last four in the Championship and Thomas Christiansen will be anxious over the lack of depth on the side.
The Whites recruited heavily in the summer and the new signings have come up with their individual contribution but still, the gaffer wants some more reinforcements in January. According to reports, The Yorkshire giants are mulling a move for Huddersfield Town defender Scott Malone.
This move came as a bit surprising as Malone only moved to the Kirklees Stadium this summer and is yet to settle in at the club. The Terriers paid a meagre sum of £4m to Fulham to secure his services but Chris Lowe has been the preferred choice for David Wagner.
The left-back is known for his marauding runs through the flanks and can cross the ball very effectively. Leeds are currently a bit weak in this department as they failed to replace Charlie Taylor properly. The left-back joined Burnley this summer even as the Whites have had their problems on the left side of the defence.
Gaetano Berardi came back from a long injury haul but the gaffer wants a specialist for that position. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson joined the club on loan from Manchester United but has failed to convince the gaffer with his performances.
Leeds want to bring the player on loan in January until the end of this season but given the hectic Premier League season ahead, it’s going to be a huge task for the Whites. Wagner is likely to keep the player as a sufficient cover for them and Leeds have a tough task to cut out.
Malone was pretty impressive for the Cottagers last season as they went on to qualify for the playoffs but failed to cross the last hurdle. Malone scored six goals in that process and also racked up with three assists. He could prove to be an upgrade on Berardi who is basically a right back.
The 26-year-old has significant experience in the second tier, having played for a number of clubs in his career. Christiansen will be boosted by fresh funds in January to repair the damage and Malone tops his shopping list. A formal offer is likely to be made in January and it remains to be seen how the Terriers reacts to this. Is Malone a decent option for Leeds?
