This season was supposed to be a game changer for Slaven Bilic but the Croatian manager is having a tough time managing West Ham United. Despite spending pretty lavishly, the Hammers had a lacklustre start as they were on a four-game winless run.
But back to back wins have given them some breathing space but they are still in the danger line. Their performance against Tottenham Hotspur was probably their finest performance this season as Bilic’s side almost salvaged a point from the North Londoners.
Diafra Sakho gave the Hammers a reason to celebrate as his extra time winner brought them out from the relegation zone. But despite all the efforts, the Hammers hierarchy seemed to have lost their faith in the manager and are exploring other options.
But if betting markets are to be believed, Bilic is currently in the firing line and could lose his place anytime soon. The Premier League already had its first sack of the season as Crystal palace parted ways with Frank de Boer following their dismal performance and Bilic could be the next.
Bilic came in the place of Sam Allardyce back in 2015 and his contract runs at the end of this season. He hasn’t been offered a new contract yet. The Hammers are reportedly eyeing Quique Sánchez Flores as his replacement.
Flores is familiar with the situation of the Premier League having led Watford in the 2015-16 season and would be a safe bet from West Ham’s perspective. Bilic is likely to depart before January but he needs to get the confidence back of the club authorities.
He has more than a capable squad at his disposal and should utilise the opportunity that comes to his way. However, he has to sort out a number of things to ease out the pressure.
The likes of Javier Hernandez and Andy Carroll should be used regularly. If Carroll stays fit he is one of the best strikers on the English soil and Bilic should keep this in mind. Also, Chicharito has been playing out of position a number of times which isn’t helping either.
He can create havoc in the opponent box and Bilic should try him in his natural position more frequently. The gaffer has a very small time in his hand to turn things around and the next couple of games could decide his fate. The Hammers are scheduled to face Burnley, Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace and they have a very good chance to come out with flying colours from these games.
