Manchester City and Manchester United are standing neck to neck in the Premier League after the first seven matches, the Citizens beating the Red Devils on goal difference to stand on the top of the table. Both the sides are displaying some decent skills in the top flight this season and will not want to lose their sight from the ultimate prize, the Premier League trophy.
Both the clubs spent well in the summer, bringing in a number of top-class players to the side in a bid to win the Premier League title this season. All the new recruits have made an impact for both the Manchester outfits and there is a chance that they might come head to head in an attempt to bag a particular player in January in the form of Spanish player Sergi Roberto, who is currently playing for the Spanish La Liga side Barcelona.
The Citizens are facing a sudden crisis in their side since the departure of their enigmatic left-back Benjamin Mendy owing to a disastrous injury recently. The French player might not be able to feature for the Citizens for the rest of the season, leaving them to find a viable replacement for him.
This has made the Manchester club attempt a raid on the Blaugrana in order to rope in their versatile possession, as the player is equally comfortable to take the field as a left back, right back and as a midfielder. The Citizens might want to have such an asset in their side and are reportedly ready to pay his release clause in the January transfer window.
Manchester United, on the other hand, might attempt to crash the plans their City rivals to bag the Spaniard from Barcelona, lining him up as a backup for their present right back Antonio Valencia, who is already 32 years old and might not continue playing for more than two years.
They, however, also have a serious concern at their disposal, the player being their first choice left-back Luke Shaw, who has been out with a serious injury for quite some time now. His recovery is slow and Jose Mourinho is compelled to use players like Daley Blind and Ashley Young in a makeshift role. He might be interested to sign the versatile Spanish international to cover for this role as well.
Both teams are sure to give the player enough game time but at the moment, with a position waiting for him in the first team, Roberto should prefer a move to Manchester City over the Red Devils.
