West Bromwich Albion are finding life very difficult in the Premier League, having started their campaign on a mixed note this season. They have managed to win only a couple of matches out of their first seven encounters and are currently standing in the 10th position in the league table.
The Baggies have not found it easy to keep possession of the ball at the heart of the midfield and have failed on a number of occasions to link up play between defence and attack and create chances consistently. This has called for the need to add some new players to the squad, especially an experienced one, who can marshal the midfield and help keep the pressure in the final third.
This has seen them scout a number of players to fill in for the spot of a central midfielder who can give them that much-needed stability at the heart of the pitch.
So it does not come as a surprise that they are reportedly looking at one of the most experienced players in the central midfield in the form of former Liverpool and Chelsea ace Raul Meireles.
The 34-year-old, who spent a significant time of his career playing for the Merseyside club and the West London club, is presently a free agent. The player might be eager to head back to England in the near future as well. He was plying his trade in the Super Lig for Fenerbahce in the last term and was released at the end of the last season by the Turkish giants.
Having played for some of the top clubs in Europe throughout his career, the ex-Portuguese international made his mark in the Premier League for Liverpool, having made 44 appearances for them before moving to their rivals from West London, Chelsea.
He played 59 matches for them and was a part of their Champions League winning side in 2012. Unfortunately, he was offloaded in the summer after the season and went on to join Fenerbahce.
The player has ample experience in the Premier League and can be a good addition to the Baggies. They are hopeful that the veteran enforcer will be able to pull some tricks off his sleeves, helping them dish out strong performances this season if they can land him this winter.
He fits the recruitment model at the Hawthorns and coming in as a free-agent is a risk worth taking.
