Newcastle United are ready to open talks for a new deal with Rafa Benitez. The Spanish gaffer’s contract will expire at the end of the next season and the club authority doesn’t want to interrupt the gaffer’s ambitious project which was started by him since he was handed the job,
Benitez has gone frustrated over Newcastle’s lack of activity in the transfer window as owner Mike Ashley failed to fulfil his promise. The wealthy owner guaranteed new funds to be injected following their excellent Championship campaign but he couldn’t carry out the job as the Magpies missed out on a number of potential targets in the summer.
The 57-year-old has so far enjoyed his life at the Tyneside and the club too has flourished under his tutelage. The Toon have picked up ten points out of a possible 21 which is a very good start, keeping in mind the fierce competition in The Premier League.
There have been continuous talks over a possible takeover by billionaire investor Amanda Staveley who was in the stands during their 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the St James Park. Mike Ashley has already expressed his wishes to hand over the club to a more substantial owner who would be able to take care of the club in a more mature way.
Ashley took over Newcastle in 2007 and now wants to part ways with the club he has been with, for the last ten years and this could play a huge role in Benitez’s future. The gaffer doesn’t have a very good relationship with the owner following what happened in the summer and if he finally does leave the club, there could be a very good chance for Benitez to steer the club the way he wants.
Benitez has had a pretty good time with this side as he led them all the way from Championship to the top tier. The journey was not easy but Benitez made sure they grabbed all the chances that came towards them. The gaffer was also very choosy when it comes to picking up his players from the transfer market and the likes of Mikel Merino and Joselu have already been an instant hit at the St James Park.
With every game, the side is looking even more disciplined so Benitez deserves a longer stint at the Tyneside to uplift the atmosphere which already has notched up a few levels. his contract extension is one of the best deals for the club in recent times.
