It hasn’t been the kind of start Spurs would have wanted to their new Premier League season. The Lilywhites are still unbeaten this season but have struggled to create plenty of chances this season. With five points from three games, it could prove to be a long hard season for the North London side if Pochettino cannot come up with some late deals adding fresh legs to the team. If you have watched the North London club carefully so far this season, it would be evident that Spurs are missing that bit of spark in attack and that has been addressed by the manager.
It is a public knowledge that Spurs had a failed attempt to lure Wilfred Zaha away from fellow London side Crystal Palace and The Daily Star claims that the Eagles are not happy with Spurs’ improved bid of worth £18m. Yannick Bolasie switched to Everton earlier this month for a fee around £25m plus add-ons and The Daily Star claims that Spurs will have to come up with a similar offer to land the 23-year-old English international.
Spurs definitely need to freshen up their attacking ranks but paying such a ludicrous sum for someone like Zaha will be a non-sense move from Spurs. Yes, Zaha can offer a whole new dimension to Spurs attack with his pace and trickery but he is far from a £25m player. If Pochettino matches Crystal Palace’s demands for Zaha, it will be nothing but a late, incautious buy.
Zaha is obviously a gifted player. On his day, he looks invincible but he can be the most frustrating player on the pitch as well. The biggest flaw in the 23-year-old’s game is he is very one-dimensional. The English international lacks an end-product to all his good work and that is why he is still just a player who can provide nothing but a bit of spark even at the age of 23, something he was even at 19 or 20.
A product of Crystal Palace’s youth system, Zaha made his mark from young days at the club and made his big-money move to Manchester United in 2013. His career stalled big time and the Theater of Dreams and was finally sold back to the Eagles in February 2015.
Zaha is still an unfinished article and should focus on his game and that he can achieve by playing week in week out at Selhurst Park. A move to Spurs will once again put his career in threat as he clearly will struggle for game time with the likes or Eriksen, Lamela, Son and N’Koudou at White Hart Lane. For £25m, Spurs can get a far better player than Zaha.
