With the transfer window at its very end, fans of several teams are hoping for some big signings to happen. This, however, is not the case with the Manchester United fans as most of them have decided to sit back and relax not expecting any activity since the team looks well-balanced thanks to some brilliant transfer activity by Jose Mourinho.
The window seems pretty much shut with these words from Jose Mourinho – “I have 23 players in the squad and in principle there is nobody leaving and nobody is coming.” Considering the nature of Jose Mourinho, the man who’s nature is at times really unforeseeable, implications are that United have a minuscule chance of singing someone, probably a defender.
Manchester United, off late, have been rumoured to be interested in Fabinho and Fonte. It seems of little chance that these will happen provided that their respective teams will have to sign replacements as well. Fabinho, the right back from Monaco has been linked for quite some time now. However, with the current form of Valencia and Darmian for backup, it seems unlikely that this should happen. If Jose decides to sell Darmian, he might then consider buying Fabinho. This might mean Valencia playing second fiddle, but on current terms that seems highly unlikely with the Ecuadorian playing some brilliant football.
Another possible transfer activity is the sale of Marcus Rojo. This, nonetheless, would contradict Jose Mourinho’s recent statement stating that he would deploy Rojo at left back if the need shall arise. “I like Cameron Borthwick-Jackson very much but he will go to Wolverhampton to play [on loan] because I have Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind to play left-back”, said the United manager regarding his plans for the summer window.
Manchester United, in all honesty, don’t need any transfers right now. The team has done a great job in winning their first three games in a row. The players, while still finding their feet, are getting on very well. While I personally don’t think United need anyone, contrary to Jose Mourinho’s statements, United could still pull out a rabbit out of the hat by signing Fabinho, who also has Mendes as his agent. The chance, however small, at this stage of the window, could still see the Monaco wingback play for United as Mourinho seems to rate him highly.
With that being said, Jose Mourinho has managed to restore a balance in the squad. The forwards are in good number, with a mix of pace and flamboyance surrounding the talisman Ibrahimović. The midfield has seen a more intimidating look with the inclusion of Pogba and the defence looks to be in safe hands with Bailly, Blind, Smalling and an injury free (for now) Phil Jones.
