Raheem Sterling’s good work has started to reap dividends for him. Pep Guardiola is very impressed with the player’s displays on the field and has decided to reward him with a brand new contract. The former Liverpool player has rediscovered himself in this season as he has been a regular in the first team setup for Pep Guardiola. The 22-year-old is currently on a very lucrative £200,000 per week contract and has three years remaining on his current deal.
Sterling was the subject of massive interest from Arsenal this summer. The Gunners were ready to push for a swap deal which could have sent Alexis Sanchez to the other way with Sterling arriving at the Emirates Stadium.
But now it seems Sterling has become an inevitable part of Pep’s plans and the message is pretty clear for the other clubs as the Spanish gaffer doesn’t want to lose his prized asset. Despite having the likes of Bernando Silva and Leroy Sane, Sterling has been preferred over these two and the 22-year-old has repaid the faith with some outstanding performances this season.
He has raised the bar this season following a very underwhelming last campaign and has been in pretty good shape. Arsenal might revive their interest in January again but it is very unlikely they are gonna get the player.
Not only Sterling. City hierarchy wants to retain the core part of the team intact and are currently considering to offer a number player like of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Gabriel Jesus new deals to tie them up for the long term. Alongside Sterling, these three players also have been pretty influential behind City’s current run of form.
City are also monitoring the movement of Sanchez and might come back with a more lucrative offer in January. The Chilean himself was pretty excited as he wanted a reunion with his former boss but the Gunners blocked his move and now he will have the chance to sign a pre-contract with the club in January.
Sterling is having a brilliant campaign and has already netted five times this season, two less than what he achieved in the entire last season. So the signs are pretty positive for the Sky Blues who are looking ruthless at this moment and if they are to continue the juggernaut, Sterling needs to be in his best shape to give his side a much-needed uplift.
