Borussia Dortmund’s sumptuous start to the season will be put to the stern test as the Black and Yellows host defending Champions Real Madrid midweek. Peter Bosz’s men are on the back of a 6:1 riot over Gladbach this weekend, and will be confident ahead of their clash against Real Madrid. However, a slip-up could almost knock BVB out of their group.
Here’s the predicted 4-2-3-1 Borussia Dortmund line-up to appear against Los Blancos.
Goalkeeper: Roman Burki was devastated when he conceded his first goal in well over 500 minutes on the weekend. But the Swiss keeper will look to improve his matchday 1 performance against Spurs in the Champions League.
Right Back: Lukasz Piszczek will be a figure in the Dortmund defence. His sloppy backpass led to a dangerous counter-attack from Gladbach on the weekend, a more solid performance is required from the Polish International.
Center Back(R): Sokratis will lead his side on Tuesday night against Real Madrid. The Greek defender will be very important in the Dortmund backline as they aim to stop the onslaught from Cristiano Ronaldo and co.
Center Back(L): Omer Toprak will most likely partner alongside Sokratis in the centre of the defence. Even though Marc Bartra did make a comeback from injury against Gladbach. Toprak’s form will be the X-factor going into this game.
Left Back: Jeremy Toljan will most likely retain his place in the starting lineup following a great performance on the weekend. Toljan was a target for Real Madrid in the summer but the former TSG fullback eventually moved to the Signal Iduna Park.
Central Defensive Midfield(R): Julian Weigl will retain his place in the side after a masterclass against Gladbach. Aside from his calming display in possession and ball circulation, Weigl scored his first ever goal in the Bundesliga with a wonderful strike.
Central Defensive Midfield(L): Nuri Sahin will partner alongside Julian Weigl in the double pivot midfield for Real Madrid. It could be interesting to how he fares against his former team on Tuesday.
Right Wing: Andriy Yarmolenko will once again feature for Dortmund in the Champions League. His goal against Spurs was one of the goals of matchday 1. The Ukrainian will look to provide more offensively this time around against Real Madrid.
Central Attacking Midfielder: It will be interesting who does Peter Bosz opts for in the attacking midfield position. Both Mahmoud Dahoud and Mario Gotze were excellent against Gladbach but we expect the latter to get a starting berth in the team. Gotze’s experience will be a key in midfield for the hosts.
Left Wing: Christian Pulisic was unstoppable against Dieter Hecking’s Gladbach. The American created quite a stir after being recalled into the starting lineup. He was subbed off within an hour, for the game against Real Madrid however. Pulisic will shift into the left side, to allow Yarmolenko to play in his preferred right wing position.
Striker: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finally chose to spoke about his failed moves in the summer a few days ago. The Gabonese International admitted that he was upset not to have interested top clubs but furthered confirmed that he’ll move on from that. He will look to prove a point with a fiery performance against Real Madrid.
Here is how they might line up:
