Danny Welbeck might have a longer stay at the Emirates than what he would have thought. Arsene Wenger is pretty impressed with the player’s effort on the pitch and is ready to tie him down to an extended deal.
Not only Welbeck the Arsenal boss is also considering to hand Aaron Ramsey a brand new deal. Both the players’ contract is scheduled to expire in the summer of 2019 and Wenger doesn’t want a headache in terms of contract related issues. Arsenal have failed to convince Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil who are yet to sign on the dotted line and could be available in January to sign a pre-contract with any club.
Welbeck has been quite a revelation this season. The 26-year-old had kept aside his injury woes and was pretty instrumental in his side’s erratic run this season. The English international has struck three times before getting out injured with a groin injury.
On being asked about the development of this issue the veteran manager nodded positively. “Yes, that is something we want to address.
“Both of them are in a good moment for us.”
Although Arsenal’s main concentration should be on Ozil and Sanchez it seems the club hierarchy doesn’t want to invest money on uninterested players. Both the players have their respected issues which have given the club lots of headache in the past.
Welbeck has also improved his defensive antics and trackbacks a lot in a bid to help his defence. But his main strength is his hold-up play and ability to link up upfront with the other attackers.
The considerable amount he has spent this season should give him the much-needed momentum when he will return from his injury spell. In the last match Arsenal did quite well against Chelsea although Sanchez played a bit part role, Ozil was absent in this crucial game.
Usually, a forward started to flourish from 28 and with Welbeck turning 27 in November this year he is due to enter his prime form. Wenger does have the luxury to let go Ozil and Sanchez due to their current attitude and mindset and Welbeck can definitely fill the shoes.
The former Manchester United player looked lively whenever he has the ball and Wenger now sees the player as an evident part of his team-building exercise. Welbeck might not be good considering his knack of getting injured but if he remains fit he has all the ingredients in him to become the future of the Arsenal side.
