Wayne Hennessey’s form in the Crystal Palace goal has been the main reason behind their awful start to the Premier League. The Eagles are yet to win a single match in the Premier League and have already conceded eight goals so far. The Wales international’s drop in form hasn’t gone down well with the club hierarchy and they are planning to replace him.
According to reports, Palace are very interested in PSV Eindhoven shot stopper Jeroen Zoet. The 26-year-old had been linked with the Eagles throughout in this summer but a deal couldn’t be reached. Zoet himself was very interested in leaving the club for a new challenge but as of now, he is on the books of the Dutch club.
He has gone on to establish himself pretty comfortably at the club and has been the first choice keeper for PSV. He helped the Dutch giants to win two Eredivisie titles in the last three seasons but is ready to leave the club as he thinks he needs to explore more.
Reports of a rumoured bid of £5m were doing the rounds but if Palace really want the keeper at the Selhurst Park, they need to shell out at least twice the amount.
There is no doubt over Hennesey’s quality but the 30-year-old hasn’t been able to produce the kind of performance for what he is famous for. Zoet’s arrival would bring a stiff competition within the ranks which could prove to be a profitable affair for the Eagles.
Zoet has continued his brilliance in the PSV goal this season and Roy Hodgson could raid the club in January to have the player under his fold. The veteran manager didn’t have the desired start to his Palace career as he had to digest a 1-0 loss to Southampton.
He will be looking for quality in the transfer market and one thing he wants to improve is the goalkeeping section. Newcastle United are also monitoring the keeper. Rafa Benitez failed to bring in a significant name at the St James Park and would try to hit hard in the winter transfer window.
Zoet also has nine caps for Holland and has already racked up over 150 appearances for PSV. If things don’t improve rapidly at the Selhurst Park, Zoet’s future could be sorted in the next transfer window.
The 26-year-old has a contract till 2019 but if PSV’s desired fee can be met, a deal is very much within the reach.
