Burnley have done good so far this season, having picked points against the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, and Liverpool in the Premier League so far. Their only loss came against West Bromwich Albion in their second match of the season and they are looking like a confident lot, ready to enter the third round of the League Cup, their opponent being the Championship club Leeds United.
However, they will have to be careful in their approach while playing against the Whites, who are also running in good form of late and have won every match in the present month in the Championship so far. Leeds have one of the best strike forces in the Championship at the present moment and the Clarets will have to act accordingly to stop them putting the ball in their net and gain an advantage in the match.
Here is the predicted lineup Sean Dyche might field for this tie:
Defence-
Burnley will have to do without their brilliant shot stopper and captain Tom Heaton, who has been sidelined with an injury and start with Nick Pope, who did a fairly good job against the firepower of Liverpool to keep the result down to a 1-1 draw.
The Clarets’ backline consisting of Matthew Lowton, James Tarkowski, Ben Mee, who is the acting captain of the side and Stephen Ward showed good resistance against the Reds and would like to repeat their performance in the next match as well in the League Cup against Leeds United.
Midfield-
Burnley will be depending on their tried and tested pair of central midfielders Steven Defour and Jack Cork, who have done a really good job so far this season vying for the ball with the opposition players in the middle of the pitch. They have been well supported by Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady on the two flanks to help the forwards with crucial through balls in the attacking third, assisting them to score goals.
Attack-
Burnley seems to have made a brilliant coup in the summer transfer window by getting the New Zealand ace Chris Wood on their side, who formerly was the star striker playing for their immediate opponents in the next match, Leeds United.
While Wood’s first game against Leeds will be something that both sets of fans will have their eyes on, his strike partner Scott Arfield, who scored in their last encounter against Liverpool, will look to be on target once again to win the next match for his side.
Predicted Lineup-
Pope, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward, Gudmundsson, Defour, Cork, Brady, Arfield, Wood.
