The new Premier League season is already at its peak and a number of clubs have been a surprise package this season with Burnley being one of them. Sean Dyche’s side have maintained a steady form this season as they are looking to turn the tide after a very dismal campaign last time around.
They have roped in a number of exciting talents but the inception of Chris Wood has been the talk of the town. There were numerous questions raised when Burley decided to splash a whopping £15m for the New Zealand international to bring the player from Championship outfit Leeds United.
But Wood has turned out to be a very shrewd signing as he has already registered two goals in two matches for the Clarets in the Premier League. After losing Andre Gray to Watford, Dyche had a daunting task to replace the goal machine and it seems he has found the perfect replacement.
Wood was the highest goal scorer in the English second tier and it was his performances last season that took a few Premier League clubs by a storm. A number of clubs were in the hunt for the prolific goal scorer but the Clarets had the last laugh.
Wood didn’t have the debut he was hoping for as he had a pretty quiet evening against Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Cup but he shrugged off the initial hiccups as he bounced back brilliantly against Tottenham Hotspur to deny the North Londoners three points with a last gasp equalizer to salvage a point for his side.
He continued his Premier League resurgence by scoring the winner against Crystal Palace as he inflicted a fourth straight defeat to Palace which resulted in the ousting of Frank de Boer.
Wood is already looking more dangerous and hungrier than ever and Dyche could be boosted by his addition. A typical fox in the box striker, Wood loves to latch on to any loose balls or mistakes to shoot it past the opposing goalkeeper and given his aerial presence in the opponent box, it has also added an extra dimension to the Burnley attack.
Wood had a short stint in the English top tier with Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion but he was not able to produce anything special for them. His goal scoring ability could decide Burnley’s fate and given the current form, Burnley will believe they can finish in the top half of the table. Surely, Wood could turn into the signing of the summer very soon.
