Arsenal have started their new season in a mixed fashion in the Premier League, having lost two of their first four matches so far. Their last match against Bournemouth, was, however, a win by 3-0, which might give them some much-needed boost before they embark on their journey in the Europa League this week.
The North Londoners had a disastrous season last time round in the Premier League, finishing in the fifth position in the league table. This was the first time since 1998 that the Gunners failed to finish in the top four and it was definitely very disappointing for them to not contest against the best teams in the Champions League this season.
The man in charge at the Emirates Stadium, Arsene Wenger, who has extended his stay at the North London club by two more years in a new contract penned down at the start of the season, is well aware of the fact that his job will be in the line of fire in case he is not able to make it a prosperous season in terms of results for his club.
He is trying his level best to introduce the habit of winning into his side and will be hoping that they will be able to get them results in both domestic as well as European circuits.
Wenger has been one of the wiliest managers in the history of Premier League, making it possible for the North London club to rise above its vices and bag the coveted trophy thrice in the Frenchman’s tenure since joining the club. However, their last Premier League title came in the 2003/04 season and it has been a long wait for their fans till now for major silverware.
Besides, things have not been looking so good in the team for the Gunners as well with their talismanic forward Alexis Sanchez looking to leave the team in the recently concluded summer transfer window, to try and join their Premier League rivals Manchester City. However, the player has been playing for the team till now with no agreement reached between him and the club making it a stalemate over a new contract offer till now.
Despite the difficulties, the Gunners will be looking to make this season a good one in term of results in the Premier League as well as European competitions. However, they should be much more focused on the domestic front and look to regain a place in the top four, to get back in the Champions League and compete with the best teams in Europe, even if it does not take them too far in the UEL this season.
