Manchester United have received a welcome news as Serie A midfielder Marek Hamsik has reportedly stated that it would be difficult for him to turn down an offer from the Red Devils. Although Jose Mourinho hasn’t shown a keen interest in the Slovakian international, Hamsik has been United’s target previously and with his showing interest in a move, United could actually make an approach for him next summer.
The 30-year-old has been at the Italian club for 10 years now but has admitted to Kicker that an offer for a move to Old Trafford would be “the hardest decision” of his career. Last summer, the transfer market has changed many things in the game. While Neymar’s move has shown the world that a player can actually cost £222 million, the move of a long-serving player like Benedikt Howedes from FC Schalke to Juventus has also proved that ‘loyalty’ is just another term in the dictionary now.
Hence, despite Hamsik carrying the charge of Partenopei for some time now and still has around two years left on his contract, Napoli could well see their star skipper depart. However, his role in the Manchester United squad could be a big question.
Getting in Nemanja Matic from Chelsea is already looking like the season changing signing for Jose Mourinho, who has kept Andre Herrera on the bench for the first three games. The Spaniard has been one of United’s most influential players last season, but Mourinho’s tactics of dominating opponents by big framed players just don’t suit the midfielder.
The fact that someone like Marouane Fellaini is getting the nod ahead of Herrera, who is not as strong technically like the Spaniard and neither retains the vision to produce key passes up front, would indicate exactly how Hamsik will fit in Mourinho’s plans.
And fortunately, Hamsik is more a kind of a player like Matic than Herrera in his physical approach to the game and ability to hustle in a congested midfield. United are going to be without Michael Carrick next summer for sure and with Herrera also likely to leave, a place for Hamsik could open up.
A central midfielder by nature, Hamsik’s tremendous expertise in the midfield could see him play easily in any position of the three-man midfield. Since moving from Italian side Brescia to Napoli in 2007, Hamsik has never really dropped to the bench.
He has played over 450 games for them scoring 114 goals and providing 108 assists, which is way too good for a central midfielder. Even for the national team, Hamsik has 20 goals in 95 caps. He is purely a Mourinho type player and the Portuguese could be tempted to make a move next summer for sure.
