According to reports, money-rich Manchester City are confident that they would be able to land Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez in the upcoming transfer window in January for a petty £20 million when he will be having just six months left on his contract. The Gunners have managed to hold to their star player narrowly this summer as a last-minute deal failed.
Manchester City had made a £60 million offer for the Chilean and Arsenal were even ready to let the man go given they had found a replacement in time for him. Their first and only preference was Thomas Lemar from AS Monaco, but the approach was made too late and the French youngster, who was on international duty then, decided to keep his focus with the club.
While reports had also stated that City were furious with Arsenal going back on their deal after agreeing to everything concerning Sanchez’s move to The Etihad, one cannot overlook the fact that Pep Guardiola’s men tried to be cocky with the deal eyeing to land Sanchez with a small figure by bidding on the last day of the window.
As far as Arsenal are concerned, they know for a fact that Sanchez would leave at the end of his contract and it would be totally foolish if they let him go midseason for £20 million. Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is willing to make that sacrifice with Sanchez ahead of a make or break season for him.
The North London club have started their season in the most horrible way possible and last season’s nightmarish chaos has returned to haunt Emirates again, this time way earlier. The fans have already planned to bring in the banners and are even thinking of making a walk out on the next game.
Wenger knows that despite him signing a two-year contract last summer, his long reign at the club could come to an end early and in a way, he would never want to. It’s his legacy at stake and Alexis Sanchez will play a huge role in getting things straight.
Sanchez has been included in Arsene Wenger’s 42-man squad for the Europa League along with Jack Wilshere, both of whom are undoubtedly top talents in Europe. And with players like Sanchez, Alexandre Lacazette, Sead Kolasinac, Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey and more, one can never strike out Arsenal of the league race so soon.
And given the fact that Sanchez didn’t hand in a transfer request with the club unlike Virgil van Dijk and Phillipe Coutinho, says a lot about his commitment when he is staying another year.
