The curtains of the summer transfer window have fallen but in spite of that, clubs do have the license the free agents (i.e., players with no contract). Championship outfit Leeds United have done some shrewd business over the course of the summer transfer window under the tutelage of Thomas Christiansen.
The Whites have signed some quality names like Samu Saiz, Pawel Cibicki, Mateusz Klich and Ezgjan Alioski to name a few, but there are some areas which are still needed to be addressed. Here are three free agents they can pounce upon to strengthen their squad.
Reto Ziegler
Although Leeds United might have been very resilient at the back, having managed to keep 4 clean sheets in their 5 league outings so far, it is the lack of depth which might hinder their progress. Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson have formed an excellent partnership at the heart of their defence, but after Matthew Pennington’s injury means that they do need a back-up.
In a situation like this, someone like Reto Ziegler can fit the bill. Ziegler captained Sion last season and it is really surprising to see him bereft of any club. The 31-year-old is a proven player with truckloads of experience and has the versatility of plying his trade as a centre-back as well as a left-back.
Joe Ledley
The Peacocks are a side which do look capable of earning a promotion this season and the positive outputs they have shown so far have only substantiated the claim. They would indeed be a fine destination for proven players, including the Welsh international Joe Ledley.
Ledley was released by Crystal Palace this summer and he hasn’t found his next home yet. The midfielder is an experienced one and is acclimatized to English football, having played for Cardiff City and the Eagles. Given his technical soundness and combative edge in the midfielder, his entry at the Elland Road could uplift the quality of Christiansen’s ranks.
Alessandro Diamanti
Alessandro Diamanti would be a massive bargain for the club owing to the experience he possesses and his calibre has been showcased by him time and again. The former Italian international played for Palermo last season.
However, he cancelled his contract with the club recently and is vouching for a new endeavour. Predominantly an attacking midfielder, the 34-year-old had earlier played for West Ham United as well as Watford and does know a thing or two about English football.
