Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are undergoing a transitional phase under the tutelage of Pedro Caixinha. The Gers have splashed their cash and also chalked out some stupendous loan deals over the course of the summer transfer window which ceased to exist a few days back. The likes of Bruno Alves, Alfredo Morelos, Daniel Candeias, Graham Dorrans and Eduardo Herrera have been lured to the Ibrox Stadium, and at this stroke of the hour, Caixinha’s outfit looks capable enough to challenge for the domestic silverwares.
One of the players they failed to acquire was Motherwell’s prolific striker Louis Moult. Moult was a subject to interest for Rangers and Aberdeen, and the latter’s bid of £350,000 was rejected by the Steelmen. His contract with Motherwell expires next summer and despite being handed a contract extension, the hitman hasn’t given his consent to extend his stay at the Fir Park. Owing to such prevailing circumstances, it is understood that the 25-year-old has once again fallen on the radar of a number of clubs, including Rangers.
Moult emerged through the youth ranks of Stoke Arrows and Stoke City, and was then promoted to the senior side of the latter. He failed to cement a spot for himself in the ranks of the Potters and was constantly getting farmed out on loan. His eventual moves to Northampton Town, Nuneaton Town and Wrexham proved to be productive, which prompted Motherwell to make him sign on the dotted line a couple of seasons ago. Last season, he smashed 18 goals and no wonder why he is in the wish-list of some top quality clubs.
Considering his contractual situation at Motherwell, he can sign a pre-contract in the month of January next year. Although the Light Blues do have three quality centre-forwards in the shapes of Kenny Miller, Herrera and Morelos, Moult would be a sensational signing for them to beef up their attacking arsenal next season. From what has transpired so far this season, it hasn’t been hard to deduce that Miller is way beyond his prime and Moult could be an astute successor of the veteran striker.
The Englishman is a striker of notable calibre and has accumulated plenty of experience under his belt. He has proven his worth in the Scottish Premiership and with due regard to Stephan Robinson’s outfit, a move to a bigger club like Rangers would be an upward step in his career. Meanwhile, the Teddy Bears should make some serious attempts to sign Moult, for he is someone who could cater to their striking needs meticulously.
