Nothing is going as planned at Selhurst Park at the moment. After a devastating start to the campaign and a nightmarish transfer season that saw the Eagles get in Mamadou Sakho as the only desirable target, manager Frank De Boer has a mammoth challenge up front to get his side up and running before the next window comes in January.
The Eagles have lost all three of their league games so far with an EFL Cup win over Ipswich Town as the only positive before going to the international break. The Dutch gaffer has come under criticism yet again with the fans furious at his aimless tactics and he seems to be experiencing Inter Milan all over again.
The board has decided to stick with him at the moment but a couple of more defeats when the league resumes this week and he could be well on his way out of the club. And they gave fans one more reason to be upset about as they decided to release young goalkeeper Kleton Perntreou by excluding him from the 25-man squad.
The Greek custodian revealed that the club is making way for one more player who is a free agent and he had to be removed to make way for him. The 22-year-old said to the South London Press, “I got told by the club officials that they needed to free up space in the 25-man squad for a new signing that should be coming in the next few days.”
With the transfer window closed, the player will be unable to get a new club until January and the London side has offered him to train in their ground till then. However, more importantly, reports claim that Palace are eyeing a move for former Manchester City and Arsenal player Bacary Sagna in order to bolster their defence.
Sagna was a part of the major exodus that took place at the Etihad Stadium at the end of last season where the likes of Gael Clichy, Sagna, Jesus Navas, Willy Caballero- all were released at the end of their contract.
Sagna will nonetheless bring chunks of experience with him at Selhurst Park given his long tenure in the Premier League. Since moving to City back in 2014 after making 285 appearances for Arsenal, Sagna has played 83 times for the Manchester club in all competitions.
The academy product of FC Sens came up through the ranks of French second-tier side AJ Auxerre before Arsene Wenger brought him in 2007. He has since been a regular in the Premier League and the Champions League and has faced some of the top sides in Europe.
