Despite signing Chris Wood from Leeds United, Premier League outfit Burnley made a late dash to make Nahki Wells sign on the dotted line. Wells passed the medical on the Deadline Day and moved from Huddersfield Town to Turf Moor for an undisclosed fee. Sean Dyche has significantly bolstered his squad over the course of the summer transfer window, with the likes of Wood, Charlie Taylor, Jack Cork and Jonathan Walters signing for the Clarets, apart from Wells, of course.
The entry of Wells is unarguably an intriguing one, for he would be offering a lot of attacking prowess to the Lancashire based side. Wells played an instrumental role in the promotion of the Terries last term, as he smashed 10 goals and registered 3 assists to substantiate the claim. Obviously, a move to the ranks of Burnley is an upward step of his career and a very positive move, but his new employers should be yielding substantial outputs too.
Wells belongs to the brand of attackers who toil relentlessly up front and has an inclination to drag his opposition’s defence to the wide areas, which allows the midfielders to perform their artistry and do the damage.
He has been a prolific goal getter throughout his career and a more than decent dribbler and penetrates into the most resolute of defences with ease. Wells is versatile and apart from playing as a centre-forward, he can be engineered on the left-wing as well.
The Bermuda international thrives on his excellent understanding of the game and despite the fact that he has a diminutive figure, he makes good use of his shrewd movements and crisp passes. From what we have seen so far, an element in him which certainly cannot be overlooked is that he is a selfless attacker and does create ample amount of opportunities for him teammates. He positions himself at the right place at the right time and no wonder why his stocks are so highly rated.
Burnley have collected 4 points from their first 4 league outings and having finished 16th in the league table last season, they must be aiming to better their credentials this time around. The 27-year-old should comply in this process and although he is untested at this level, his Championship experience should come handy.
He is currently out with a knee injury and is scheduled to return at the start of next month, he will certainly add a new dimension to Burnley’s attack this season.
