Among the Premier League heavyweights, only Manchester City have spent vigorously this summer as Pep Guardiola has been looking to prove his authority in the Premier League.
Despite the promising performances during the course of the last season, this was the first time in the Spanish gaffers career that he had finished a season without claiming any trophies. With the plethora of new signings, it should be an exciting new season for the Sky Blues.
Defence
Pep brought Ederson in an attempt to take things under his control. The Spanish gaffer had brought Claudio Bravo last season in an attempt to solve City’s concern between the posts but the Chilean international’s performance were way below par. Pep had to reluctantly seek the help of his second choice keeper Willy Caballero.
Vincent Kompany has remained one of the most experienced defenders in the Premier League and if he remains fit he is going to be Pep’s main bet this season.
John Stones’s City career has been very problematic as the young defender has been exploited a number of times. But Pep is likely to give him another chance to revive his career.
City’s problem of an ageing back line has been solved to some extent since the arrival of Benjamin Mendy, Danilo and Kyle Walker. Mendy has already shown his class as his marauding runs and defence splitting through balls has given a tough time to the opposition defender.
Kyle Walker will take his place on the right side and would be looking to combine with the attackers up front.
Midfield
Illkay Gundogan is on its way to recovery and his return to the starting lineup will be a big boost for the gaffer.
Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva would bring a whole lot of options for the Spanish boss. Both the players know their role pretty well and would add a pinch of the flair of and guile to City’s attack. Their form could play a key role in this season
Attack
Bernardo Silva was City’s first buy of this season and has given a new dimension to City’s attack. He will start from the left wing.
Raheem Sterling’s development has been pretty excellent as the English youngster has turned himself into a completely different player. The former Liverpool winger is poised to start on the left wing.
Gabriel Jesus will be lining up up front in a bid to launch a scathing attack on the opponent defence.
