If reports are to be believed then Watford have been offered Argentine international Nico Gaitan. And with Marco Silva eyeing to get one more attacking reinforcement if Stefano Okaka leaves in the dying hours of the transfer window, a late deal is possible. The Atletico Madrid winger has high chances of leaving the club, who are making space for the arrival of Diego Costa.
Although Atletico Madrid are willing to let him go on a loan deal in the region of €2 million, they are also willing to include an option to buy as part of the deal, to lure the prospective suitors. Premier League side Everton are reportedly willing to land Stefano Okaka before the window shuts and a loan deal for Gaitan hinges heavily on that.
Although the Italian international bagged five goals in 20 Premier League games last season following his arrival from Anderlecht, Silva hasn’t used him since their opening day draw with Liverpool, where he had netted the opener.
Watford have done decent business this summer bringing in Andre Gray, André Carrillo from Benfica (loan), Richarlison from Fluminense, Will Hughes from Derby County, Nathaniel Chalobah from Chelsea, Tom Cleverley from Everton, Kiko Femenia from Alaves, Daniel Bachmann from Stoke City and Orestis Karnezis from Udinese.
And the squad upgrade has already fetched great results with the side winning one and drawing two in the opening three games. Getting in the 29-year-old could be huge for the Hornets, given his skillset from wide areas. He had a quiet season with Rojo Blancos last season scoring three goals in 23 games but his ability to create chances from wide areas is terrific.
Argentina have produced some very gifted players over the years and Gaitan is not an exception. A winger by nature, Gaitan can operate from the attacking midfield as well. A left-footer, Gaitan can play from the right with equal ease with terrific dribbling skills and close control.
Having him in the centre could be advantageous for Silva. He excels in ball distribution and with players like Gray and Troy Deeney up front, Watford could get a different attacking dimension. An academy product of Club Atlético Boca Juniors, Gaitan has enjoyed his peak years with Benfica, where he scored 41 goals and provided a whopping 87 assists in over 250 games.
He has been capped 16 times for Argentina so far and is looking for a crucial season ahead of him with the World Cup coming up.
