According to reports, Championship side Birmingham City have tabled a shocking bid for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, which would see the English midfielder join the Blues on a season long loan. Wilshere has been playing for the Arsenal Under-23 side recently and with his first team future in serious doubt, could seek regular chances elsewhere although the Championship seems a serious step-down.
Manager Harry Redknapp has been quite active on the deadline days as he has already completed some major signings. Spanish forward Jota just joined from Brentford and former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Alex Song is expected to move from Russian side Rubin Kazan.
Following some significant changes in the managerial level, Birmingham had a poor start to the campaign as they lost to Ipswich Town on the opening day. It was followed by a thumping 5-1 win over Crawley Town in the EFL Cup first round that saw the Blues gain some confidence in the next two games. However, a shocking loss against Burton Albion unleashed a losing streak.
Birmingham have already brought in full backs Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Bramall from Arsenal and the 25-year-old midfielder could be next on the list. Redknapp has already moved for midfielders Cheikh Nodye and Jason Lowe this summer, while Jeremie Boga joined on loan from Chelsea earlier this week. And Wilshere coming now really takes the Birmingham team to the next level.
Wilshere, 25, is expected to leave Arsenal after spending last season on loan with Bournemouth. After a mixed season with AFC Bournemouth last season, Wilshere is finding it very difficult to get back his position at the club. Previously Championship side Aston Villa and Premier League club West Ham United had also enquired about him.
Arsenal manager Wenger has shared a very close bond with the player and could have given him a chance in the less important games as his current fitness level doesn’t allow him to fit into the first team at the moment. But given that the World Cup is coming up, Wilshere would definitely want to see some crucial time this season.
Wilshere was voted Fans’ player of the month last November while at Bournemouth where he didn’t have so many good players around him, which exhibits his quality from the midfield. However, injuries have never left him since the beginning of the career and his decent loan season with Bournemouth came to an end with a fractured left foot the last term.
