Liverpool face-off against Tottenham Hotspur at the White Hart Lane as the two teams carry on their never ending quest of scoring one over the other. Last season both the matches involving the two ended in draws and both the teams will be eager to come out on the winning side this time around. While Spurs and Liverpool are expected to have exciting seasons for different reasons both of them have issues to deal with as of now.
The only thing consistent about Liverpool is their unpredictability. With impressive wins against Barcelona and Arsenal sandwiched between damning losses to Mainz and Burnley, Klopp has some serious work to do. While on the other hand, Spurs have had a decent start with a draw at Everton followed by a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. But at no point have they looked like coming out of the 1st gear. Kane and Alli, the two lynchpins of last season’s success are seemingly finding it difficult to emerge from the shell of attacking impotency thrust by Roy’s tactics over the summer. Saturday’s encounter will be a stern test for both the sides as Liverpool look to bounce back from last week’s humiliating loss and Spurs look to kick on with their main players hopefully back in the groove.
DEFENCE
Mignolet is expected to start in goal with Karius still nursing an injury. Clyne will take up his usual spot at right-back. Lovren is almost a certainty and although Matip provides an option, Klavan might get the nod in the difficult match up having had more minutes under his belt. Klopp will have second thoughts about recalling Moreno for the match and Milner will most likely get the nod at left-back.
MIDFIELD
Henderson might get another chance to impress after a disappointing performance at Burnley. Klopp would dearly love to have Can fit after another set-back midweek but has admitted he is a doubt. Lallana is expected to take up the third slot with Wijnaldum missing out most likely if Can features.
ATTACK
Sadio Mane picks himself when fit after showcasing his importance in both appearances thus far. Phillipe Coutinho also looks to be nailed on but Klopp will be pondering over the selection of one of Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino. Firmino is likely to get a nod in the false nine position with the England international providing an attacking option from the bench.
