Hull City have had a mixed start to their new season in the Championship after getting demoted from the Premier League last term. They have collected 7 points so far from 5 outings in the English second division and for a side which is perceived as one which can impose a substantial challenge for bagging a promotion, it goes without saying that they must be chalking more productive results to better their chances.
Leonid Slutsky has already made some shrewd additions over the course of the summer transfer window in order to beef up his arsenal. The likes of Kevin Stewart, Jon Toral, Jackson Irvine, Sebastian Larsson and Fraizer Campbell have been already lured to the KCOM Stadium under the guardianship of Slutsky. However, the manager is still very keen to remove the loopholes and one particular sector which he is looking forward to strengthening is the central midfield.
As per one of the latest reports, the Tigers are in discussions to sign Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback on loan before the curtains of the summer transfer window fall. The Magpies earned an immediate return back to the English top flight after clinching an automatic promotion spot last season and Colback was one of the most influential figures for them. However, he has fallen out of favour at St. James’ Park this season and thus, he himself is also vouching for an outlet.
Colback emerged through the youth ranks of Sunderland and chiselled a fine name for himself after being promoted to the senior side of the Black Cats. During his stay at the Stadium of Light, he accumulated experience during his two loan spells with Ipswich Town which enabled him to grow as a player. The Toon made him sign on the dotted line in the summer of 2014 and he helped them in securing their promotion last season. But his days in the ranks of Benitez seem to be heavily numbered.
A move to Hull City should benefit all the parties involved, as Newcastle United should be able to free up some space to make additions which would enhance their quality, while the 27-year-old would have more chances of getting time on the pitch if the deal eventually materializes. As far as Hull City are concerned, they will be able to engineer a player who has truckloads of experience under his belt and will help them in making a push for promotion.
