Sunderland have not started their Championship season the way they would have wanted, with the Black Cats winning just one of their five matches so far while losing two and drawing the rest of the matches in the competition. The Wearside club are now looking to bring in some new players on the deadline day so as to add to their strengths and achieve something substantial in terms of results.
One such player, who can be a real good addition to their roster for the rest of the season is Jack Colback, currently playing for the newly promoted Premier League side Newcastle United. The English international is known for his ability to play as a central midfielder and can help the Black Cats in the forthcoming days of the season to stabilize their midfield.
Colback has been a part of the Sunderland team for quite a long time in the earlier days of his career and featured in 135 matches for the Wearside club. However, he spent two years in between while playing for the Black Cats on loan at fellow Championship rivals Ipswich Town from 2009-2011. Then on, he played an integral part in the Sunderland side till 2014, when he switched sides and joined the then Premier League club Newcastle United.
It has been a far from good tenure for the 27-year old Englishman at St James’ Park, especially after the arrival of their present coach Rafa Benitez at the helm. He ceased to use the player on a regular basis in his team and cut short his role in the side. This being the story for the ginger haired central midfielder in the last season, it does not seem to have any chances of changing much in this term as well.
The player is known for his cool and composed attitude in the middle of the pitch and the Black Cats can use him well to fend off the opposing players from raiding their goal and help to keep the possession of the ball to themselves as much as possible. Colback will also benefit from the move as the Englishman will be playing in familiar circumstances at the Stadium of Light, which might be good for the revival of his career.
Sunderland are looking forward to getting back into the top flight but have not got the kind of start they would have hoped for in the Championship season so far. Hopefully, the arrival of a familiar player like Jack Colback will be helpful for them in the pursuit of glory.
